ABOUT IDEAS
Aside from her own work as a mill textile designer, and an experimental textile artist she has always collaborated with other designers and architects to create functional products. She moves smoothly in the border areas between art and design. She finds poetry of manufacturing products and shaping life; which all together is design, art and crafts.
Plants and flowers inspire her to explore organic forms and radiate colours. Nature forms are complex, clutter-free, but rich at the same time. Reflections from nature can be used as a bridge between internal and external space. Nature works as an endless multi-sensory source for her, visually, tactility including sounds and smells.
Sari believes in design, craftsmanship and products with real character. She finds inspiration from colours, light, both everyday life and holiday. "Think your home as your universe, filled with the things you love, things that tell the story of you".
Sari works with the integration of different techniques and materials, the keywords are functionality, materialness and lushness. With the help of various techniques weave, print and embroidery, she attains a three dimensional surface to illustrate depth by the way of colour and ornamentation. She uses handlooms as a sketchbook to develop textiles into production in small runs and at large. She utilizes both traditional and modern techniques to give the products the desired finish.
The essential style of Sari's textiles is rooted in the Scandinavian heritage of simplicity, combined with the bold colours and rich textures of the Indian subcontinent. As her products bridge the distance between the Far North and the Exotic East they also span the design culture of Finland and the restrained sensibilities of Norway.
